Frequently Asked Questions

+ Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?

While it is not required for you to have a piano at home we do recommend purchasing a weighted electric keyboard. This is a small investment and a great tool to use while your child or you are just starting your lessons!

+ How long does it take to learn an instrument?

This will vary for each student. There are a lot of things that factor into how quickly you will learn an instrument. How long your lesson is, how many times a week you practice, how much theory you are learning/practicing, and of course your positive attitude always helps! Learning a new instrument takes time and needs lots of repetition to improve your skills.

+ What type of teachers can I expect from Cornerstone Music Studios?

All of our Faculty at Cornerstone Music Studios are highly sought after, professional, experienced, and educated instructors!

+ What if the student and teacher’s personalities don’t work well together?

At Cornerstone Music Studios we take special care in asking parents/caregivers questions about their child. We choose to pair our students to teachers based on personality so who they are going to work best with! We’ll ask you about their personality, their learning style, their demeanor, and of course which instrument they are interested in!

+ What if my child starts out in the lessons and genuinely hates the instrument?

We suggest that students try the instrument for at least a month to really make an informed decision about whether or not they want to discontinue their instrument. Often times our faculty teach multiple instruments so the student could switch part of the way through the term without having the hassle of finding a new teacher and a new day/time.

+ Can I sit in on my child’s music lesson?

Yes, we have an open door policy. However there are some students who thrive with a parent in the room and others who will be distracted.

+ Can we take lessons every other week instead of every week?

We strongly discourage students taking lessons every other week. Only seeing your child for 30-minutes every other week while trying to learn an instrument can be detrimental to their progress. This would mean that the student and faculty would not see each other for a full 14 days.
